Enlighten and About.com Give $10,000 to Girls on the Run

What do a digital marketing agency, a Web portal and a non-profit organization for girls have in common? All three value a healthy lifestyle and understand the importance of supporting a lifelong love of health and fitness. It was with this tenet in mind that Enlighten – with the help of About.com – dedicated $10,000 to fund the local Southeastern Michigan chapter of Girls on the Run.

The donation is the result of About.com and CalorieCount.com’s 3rd Annual Calorie Count Agency Trivia Challenge. The sites invited advertising agencies and brands from around the country to take part in its weekly nutrition-themed trivia contest, in which participants posted their answers to Twitter using the @CalorieCount handle and a dedicated hashtag. As the winner of the Challenge, Enlighten selected Girls on the Run, a non-profit group that uses running to “inspire and motivate girls, encourage lifelong health and fitness, and build confidence through accomplishment,” to receive the grand prize of $10,000.

“This is an incredible opportunity to encourage healthy living and help a worthy cause,” said Ryan Short, digital media planner with Enlighten and the agency’s Calorie Count Trivia Challenge organizer. “Our thanks to About.com and Calorie Count for facilitating this donation, which will surely have a big impact on Girls on the Run.”

“At Calorie Count, we strive to promote a healthy lifestyle and educate our users about proper nutrition,” said Igor Lebovic, co-founder of CalorieCount.com. “We’re proud to enable Enlighten to give back to one of the many worthy charities serving the community that promotes healthy living.”

According to Sarah Henry, marketing and development coordinator for Girls on the Run, “This donation will do so much to help us grow within our five county area as well as provide scholarships to those girls who otherwise couldn’t afford the program. A million thanks to Enlighten, About.com and Calorie Count!”
