The Case of the Mysterious Consumer Packaged Goods Site Redesign
Recently, I had the privilege of being part of a team of fellow Enlighten-ers who presented at IUE2012 (Internet User Experience Conference) in Ann Arbor. IUE2012 brought together top industry speakers, practitioners, and authors to discuss the many aspects of web site strategy and design, with a greater focus this year on social media and mobile applications.
Since “mobile” is a hot topic, our team presented a case study about responsive web design. Responsive web design is a highly debated strategy right now, as the market for mobile devices increases at a rapid rate and clients are searching for ways to serve all audiences more efficiently. Our group, comprised of Krysta Stone (Assoc. Dir. of Interactive Design), Adam Kempa (Senior Software Engineer), Karen Ford (Software Engineer), and myself (Interactive Designer), brought our individual disciplinary perspectives, which were insightful for the different audience members that were present.
An intro to responsive web design panel presented right before us, and they served as a primer for our presentation as they covered the basics of responsive web design. The audience was left wanting more and began asking questions about implementation and tactical advice, dovetailing with our presentation. With our first-hand knowledge of responsive web design on display, we broke down our entire process from start to finish, showing relevant screen captures and details of our design decisions.
